Writing prompt from Megan Devine’s Writing Your Grief Course: How do you live in a landscape so vastly changed?
I was living in the forest
A wild and scary forest
I couldn’t see the wood for the trees
I couldn’t see the light for the darkness
I’d trip over roots
Get slashed by branches
Lurch into tree trunks
And crash with the
Wind knocked out of me
And then it all fell silent
All noise and activity gone
The churning and howling winds calmed
The branches reaching out for me
No more
Quiet
Peace
Relief
Nice for a while
But now the quiet is
Heavy and
Suffocating
And empty
Helllloooooo!?
Is there anybody out there?
Just yell if you can hear me
Will anyone ever need me
Again?
